How to play MP3 files?
Get your MP3 player at:
PC Windows
A 486 or Pentium is needed for playback.
- WinAmp looks better but needs more CPU power.
It has some very nice features, like a playlist. Freeware.
- Winplay3 version 2.0
Shareware. (20 sec playback limitation until you register)
- Winplay3 version 1.3
Freeware. (Older but no limitation)
- Maplay
is also very popular, Pentium 75 or better needed. Freeware.
- museArc
PC DOS
Ehm... I know DOS can be great but you should really start thinking about using
Windows! If you can't/won't, use the l3dec program that will decode the MP3 file to
a WAV file. It can be found at the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft.
(If you really think DOS is great, try Unix instead!)
Macintosh
A PowerMac is at least needed for playback.
Unix
Some of these will need to be compiled first. You may need root priviliges to install them.
- mpeg3play
for Sun/Solaris; can also be ported to other systems (linux, FreeBSD, Amiga, HP-UX,
IBM AIX)
- mpg123 Tested on
Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, SunOS, Solaris, IRIX, HP-UX and others.
- Splay for linux.
- Maplay should work too, since a lot of other programs are based on it.
I have no adress for that (yet).
Try to search the world wide web for MP3 players. You will find players, encoders,
decoders, and maybe even more.... ;-)
