We needed something to move and fill up the space
We needed something this always is just the case
Jefrey with one f Jefrey took up his place
Sat on a carpet and with tablas in hand took up the chase

   Jefrey with one f Jefrey
Now it occurred to me as he drove away
   D equals R times T
Jefrey with one f Jefrey (x4)

   Spacious
   (He's so) spacios
Jefrey with one f Jefrey (x4)

   Space
   (I believe in) space
   Jefrey with one f Jefrey

Now I'm going to sing the Perry Mason theme

   (He's so, he's so) spacious
   (He's so, he's so) spacious
   (He's so, he's so) spacious

   Jefrey with one f Jefrey
   Jefrey with one f Jefrey
Jefrey with one f one f.

"D eguals R times T" is in fact "Distance equals Rate times Time" which is also the title of another Pixies song on the same album.

During the song Black Francis mimics the Perry Mason theme rather ugly and echoed. Perry Mason was one of the longest (1957-1966) running courtroom TV series in America with a very recognisable themesong.

"A tale about Jeffrey, who sat on a carpet with pallet in hand, took up the chase. What he's chasing he's anyone's guess." - Black Francis in Melody Maker

"We got this tablas player to play on the song. His name is Jef Feldman. He's the brother of a keyboard player that used to play with Captain Beefheart, who plays in Pere Ubu now - and he's played on our new record. His brother is an expert tablas player - he's jammed with Ravi Shankar and everything!" - Black Francis in Rock A My Soul fanzine #2 No info yet. WIP
