I see it like this Sengan Baring-Gould Sat Jan 03 at 10:04PM EST senganb@cyrix.com Microsoft owns the market because of its excellent marketing. It plays as rough as it can - it operates in the capitalist paradigm, and that paradigm says that's ok: you win if you make money. A logical conclusion within that paradigm is that your solution must be adopted. Authors of free software work in a different paradigm: the point is creating a nice piece of software. Nice means useful, technically challenging, aesthetically pleasing, and as solid as you can. Within that paradigm money is only a means, and not the end. A logical conclusion of that paradigm is that the best solution should be adopted. The 2 paradigms clash causing a lot of friction. In the history of paradigms (eg Science versus Astrology), the paradigm that delivers more power to its users usually ends up being adopted.
